Recent achievements include the ensemble's first GRAMMY® nomination for its work with composer Carla Patullo on her latest album “So She Howls"; a collaboration with Black female composer EmmoLei Sankofa for her “The Other Black Girl” Hulu series soundtrack; a performance with world-renowned DJ Tiesto; viral flash mob performances with Kelly Clarkson, and more. Such collaborations highlight Tonality's dedication to excellence and social impact. By joining Tonality, you're not just showcasing your talent and sharing your gift with the world, you're becoming a part of a movement that transcends music to touch hearts and minds.

Audition Process: A Three-Step Journey

STEP ONE: Audio Video Submissions (Open to public December 1-17, 2023):

Beginning December 1 and until 11:59 p.m. PST on December 17, Tonality will accept prescreen audition materials in the form of audio video submissions.

On December 1, the audition page ourtonality.org/auditions will open. It is through this page that applicants can access the Tonality's 2024-2025 Audition Application (Google Form). The form invites applicants to provide personal information such as name and contact info; artistic details such as voice type and relevant experience; personal reflections. It's on this form that you'll also include URL links to to videos of you performing solo — such as a link to a video on YouTube or Vimeo.

These videos will be used to determine whether you'll advance to the next step of the audition process. This video can be of you performing any song you like, there's no requirement here — as long as the song resonates with you for its genre or subject matter, etc. Your passion and performance is what matters!

STEP TWO: Interview & Sight-Singing Audition (By invitation, starting January 15, 2024):

After applications for Step One have been reviewed, selected candidates will be invited to attend an interview with the Tonality team including founder and artistic director Alexander Lloyd Blake.

This step of the process is Tonality's chance to get to know you as a person and a performer. It will include a sight-reading exercise and a conversation, so be prepared to share more about your story and your connection to music.

STEP THREE: Callbacks for Self-Contracted Concerts* (Feb 20-21, 2024):

Standout performers will be called back for final auditions with the Tonality team. This is your time to shine!

Tenor/Bass: February 20, 2024 (6-9 PM). Soprano/Alto: February 21, 2024 (6-9 PM). *Please Note: Attendance at callbacks is mandatory for consideration.

Diversity at Its Core

Tonality's strength lies in the rich tapestry of its members' backgrounds and styles, and new voices and stories that enrich the ensemble are welcomed!
