When I first moved to LA in 2020, a few singer friends told me about Tonality and I was really struck by the group’s purpose and mission, in addition to the incredible musicianship. I view Tonality as a leader in the choral space and I was very eager to get involved in singing music that doesn't just rest on pretty sounds but actually has something to say.
In a time when so many institutions are failing to meet the moment, or think the moment for a project like Tonality has come and gone, this group continues to stand as an example of how to create conversation and change through music, as well as how to create an inclusive environment in a historically exclusionary genre like choral music.
I had a lot of fun performing with the Tonality trebles as the backing choir for Sigur Ros and the Wordless Music Orchestra during their 3 night run at the Orpheum Theater! The songs with choir finished the show, and hearing the thunderous applause from the crowd and seeing the band smile at us as they walked off stage was so rewarding.
