On September 20, Tonality, the two-time GRAMMY Award-winning choral ensemble, gathers for an evening of music, remembrance, and conversation at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles.
At the heart of the evening is Running From, Running To, a choral reflection on the life of Ahmaud Arbery. Composed by Tonality's founder, Dr. Alexander Lloyd Blake, and co-written with Ogi, the work is drawn from our album Songs of Remembering. It is a piece about memory, about injustice named out loud, and about the way a community holds one another in song.
The evening opens with a reception from 4:00 to 5:30 PM, an intimate gathering with food, wine, and time alongside the artists. The concert follows at 6:00 PM, and the evening closes with a talkback and a moment to linger together.
We are also joined by the Tonality Scholars, the high school singers of our education program, who perform alongside the ensemble in two movements of the work. Their voices are part of why this evening matters.
The concert is offered pay what you can, because this story belongs to everyone. We hope you will join us.
